Launched by the Italian fashion house earlier in the year, the « Gucci Places » project now expands its promotion of the discovery of unusual or special places all around the world, places that translate an emotion and are dear to Gucci. The project takes the form of a mobile phone application where all the Gucci Places are listed with photographs, videos and a bit of information on their history. The first place to be acknowledged by Gucci was the Castle of Chatsworth in Derbyshire, England.
The brand has since been working on welcoming new places with character to its catalogue, from London to Tokyo. The Bibo restaurant in Hong Kong has been chosen by Gucci for its 1930s design and atmosphere, its French cuisine and the art gallery surrounding the fine meals, made of pieces by Banksy, Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst to name a few. Gucci has also selected the Waltz record store in Tokyo to appear on the app. The store is known for its incredible range of vintage cassettes and vinyls, as well as back copies of old magazines. Favoring analog material to digital, Waltz has played an important role in keeping the art of music-making alive. Other places include the Angelica library in Rome, the LACMA in Los Angeles and the Maison Assouline in London.
In addition to the application, Gucci has also teamed up with all the places involved to create special accessories inspired by the sites, which will be sold either directly on site or in the nearest Gucci store.
