With a name like « Gucci Garden », it’s easy to expect the kind of place where bright green grass grows and flowers bloom but in fact, it designates the house’s new installation at the Palazzo della Mercanzia in Florence. The Gucci Garden opened yesterday and comprises of a restaurant, a store and a museum space. Alessandro Michele had in mind a whole new way of exposing artwork, breaking the barriers of traditional museum installations and proposing an interactive way of experiencing art. The gallery welcomes elements from the present and the past, all a part of the Gucci history. Clothing, accessories, video installations, exclusive documents and contemporary art pieces are exposed, taking up two stories of the gothic building. This Gucci Garden Galleria was designed with the help of curator and art critic Maria Luisa Frisa.
On the other hand, the restaurant, called the Gucci Osteria, is conducted by the three star chef Massimo Bottura who was once voted best chef in the World by the « World’s 50 best restaurants ». For this project, the chef created a new menu centered around traditional Italian cuisine mixed with influences from his numerous travels.
The store has been made in order to look like a bazar and sells exclusive Gucci Garden merchandize, whether it be clothes and accessories or a selection of magazines and books.
